Adding more visual appeal
Since my first mock-up was too simple, I started on a final mock-up by using the concept of doodles for the background. Below are some inspirations:
I started by sketching different kinds of breakfast food and also redesigned the face. Below is a progress of inking the drawing.

Improving pop-out image
I made changes to the pop-out image by adding cream, sprinkles and more chocolate so it would be more visually appealing. I also made it in several sizes to be printed.

Mock-up 1
I decided to see how the overall look of the cup would be by making a simple mock-up. For the cup and cup holder, I tried to measure diameter and radius, but I was not very good at math so I decided to try a different way to get measurements. I removed Chatime's default paper and traced the measurements onto a brown paper.
After that, I drew using a sharpie and black gel ink pen. While drawing, I had to make measurements so that the mouth would be exactly where the pop-out image should be. Then I cut the brown paper and wrapped it around the cup, sticking it on with double-sided tape.

For the cup holder's drawing, I tried to make a sketch with the holder flat on the table, but it turned out smaller than the cup image and it looked imbalanced. So, I decided to draw while the holder was on the cup. This is the result:
Though it still looks imbalanced, now I have a grasp on what I have to do for my final mock-up.
Another element that was supposed to be added was a coupon attached behind the cup holder for coffee consumers to use to get a free doughnut. This would both encourage them to eat breakfast, and also enable them to interact with the coffee cup.
This was how it looked after adding the coupon. However, since it looked more visually appealing without the coupon, I decided to forgo this idea.
Progress in technical aspect
After my first attempt, I decided to use a similar method of making the image pop-out, but with a different material. The material I used this time is cardstock paper.

Ms Anis suggested to make the doughnut look more appealing by using exaggeration, such as adding more cream and sprinkles.
Pop-out image
This was my attempt at making a doughnut in Illustrator. Since I did not know how to measure the size of the image, I printed it out in several sizes to see which one I could use.
